About me…
I’m Laurence. I attended the University of Oxford between 2010 and 2018, completing an undergraduate masters of mathematics (MMath) and a doctorate in mathematical biology (DPhil, PhD). I have 5+ years experience of tutoring the UK mathematics syllabus.
I’m also a qualified social worker, specialising in working with children who have experienced trauma. Due to this, I am also experienced in working with children with complex SEND needs or neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism and ADHD.
Through my time in social work, I have learnt how to support a wide range of young people, with empathy and care.
This, together with my deep knowledge of mathematics, I can help children reach their goals. Whether they just need some extra help to achieve the highest grades, or if they need additional support tailored to their needs, I am here to help.
Qualified, Experienced
In my Undergraduate Masters Mathematics course at The University of Oxford, I specialised in Applied Mathematics - studying topics such as quantum theory, quantum computing, special relativity, fluid/solid mechanics, and biomathematics.
I completed my DPhil (PhD) in the field of Mathematical Biology. I researched mathematical models of the human eye, simulating the distribution and interaction of injected drugs. Over the 4 years of my research I published three papers in well-respected academic journals.
I am fully DBS checked and safeguarding trained, committed to ensuring the welfare of your child.
We can increase interactivity through the use of a device on your end too, such as a tablet or your own graphics tablet. This allows us both to write on the whiteboard at the same time.
Many of my students have purchased their own graphics tablets, and I would be happy to recommend one. Basic ones can be purchased for less than £50.
However, this is not essential and students can still make fantastic progress without one!

How I deliver quality online tuition
Using a combination of Google Meet, virtual whiteboards and a graphics tablet, I am able to provide seamless online tuition.
I write on the virtual whiteboard as I would with a pen and paper. Questions are easy to input and annotate.
I use Bitpaper to store virtual whiteboards, which are then permanently accessible to you anytime at no cost.
